How to Clean Your Fairy Wings

Fairy wings are a fun costume addition for your little girl but I am sure not all girls are the cleanest when it comes to party time. Generally your fairy wings are going to be a delicate costume piece and you will want to use care when cleaning them. If treated properly your fairy wings will give your little princess years of fun and enjoyment.  here are some tips you can use to clean your set of fairy wings while keeping them in top condition for a longer life. Let’s first look at the construction for the fairy wings so you understand clearly what materials you are dealing with. Most of the time fairy wings are made out of the same material as nylons or tights. This material as you know is prone to runs and will tear easily. There are different qualities of course of this material as with any material but no matter what quality yours are made of you will still want to take care in their treatment. The fairy wings are often joined in the middle before the tight material is placed on the wires. They will be wired or taped together where the formed wires are joined. The only “durable” part of your fairy wings will be the wire around the edge and perhaps the material covering the joint.
Let’s start first with a few of the things you should avoid:

1. Never put fairy wings in the clothes washer. This may be a no brainer for you but I thought it would be good to put in just in case…
2. Never use a wire brush or stiff cleaning brush as the bristles may damage your wings.
3. Never use bleach on your fairy wings
4. keep wings away from extreme heat or fire

Okay, now that we have that out of the way let’s talk about things you can do to actually keep the fairy wings in good shape:

1. Warm water is your friend in most cases. Use warm water and if needed gentle Soap to clean most soil from your fairy wings. of course we all know that you use cold water for blood but I am going to wager that if you need to clean blood out of your fairy wings…that probably is not your greatest worry.
2. Use a soft cloth to assist in removing cake or icing or other food or items that may get on your wings.
3. If you have a sprayer in your sink this is a great way to clean your wings. With the sprayer you will be able to clear away the cup cake chinks and bring your fairy wings back to life.
4. Use a dish towel to pat dry after you have washed your wings and then let air dry.

I would recommend you also spray your wings with scotch guard or similar protecting spray once you receive them to help keep them from staining. A small amount of prevention can save you the headache of needing to apply any cleaning techniques.  So go ahead and enjoy your fairy wings for whatever the occasion and rest assured that now you know some tips that will help you keep them clean and lasting for years to come.
